Over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, the Libertarian Party will hold the nation’s first-ever nationwide online nominating convention for the selection of candidates for President and Vice-President.
The Libertarian Party national convention was originally scheduled to be held this weekend in Austin, Texas. When it became clear that a full political convention was not feasible under the current circumstances, the Libertarian National Committee made a decision to hold a remote session of the convention to select candidates for president and vice-president, postponing
other convention business until an in-person convention tentatively scheduled for early July in Orlando, Florida.
The Libertarian Party of Arkansas will have nine delegates participating in this weekend’s online convention, attending remotely from around the state. Over 1,000 delegates will be participating nationwide. The participation of the Arkansas delegation will be coordinated by state party chair Michael Pakko. “We’ve been going through test runs of the system over the past couple of weeks to make sure this will all work,” said Pakko. “We’ve had to get all of our delegates connected to the national online convention platform and to establish voting procedures and communications channels within our own delegation.”
The proceedings will begin with delegate credentialing on Friday afternoon and will proceed through an agenda that includes the selection of the Party’s candidates for President and Vice-President over the Memorial Day weekend.
Lists of the declared candidates for the Libertarian Party’s presidential and vice-presidential nominations are available at: https://www.lp.org/libertarian-party-candidates/2020/ and https://www.lp.org/2020-libertarian-vice-presidential-candidates/.
Proceedings of the convention will be live-streamed on the Libertarian Party YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/LibertarianParty.
