Arkansas Libertarian Party Endorses Holt in U.S. Senate Primary

(Little Rock, AR) Today the Arkansas Libertarian Party (ARLP) announced their endorsement of U.S. Senate candidate Jim Holt and Arkansas House of Representatives District 31 candidate David Sanders in the May 18 primary.

“The Arkansas Libertarian Party is willing to stand up for individuals who are sincere about smaller government and greater fiscal responsibility,” said Gerhard Langguth, ARLP State Chair. “Even though the Libertarian and Republican Parties differ on some social issues, these men are serious about ending radical government spending, and that’s an issue we can absolutely support.”

Holt and Sanders spoke to the ARLP earlier this month and each expressed their willingness to stand up for Arkansans’ rights and fight corruption. Holt and Sanders believe in open communication with their constituents and are eager for input.

“Everyone knows that libertarians are all about more liberty, individual responsibility, less taxes and smaller government, so I’m honored and thrilled to have their endorsement,” said Holt. “The Republican Party is all about competition and free markets so we should welcome commerce and let the cream rise to the top.”

Holt has a history of supporting independent candidates and third parties. In 2005 Holt introduced The Equal Ballot Access Act, which would reduce the requirements to recognize third parties, making them the same as individual independent candidates. The bill died for lack of motion.

In 2006, the American Civil Liberties Union Voting Rights Project filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Green Party of Arkansas which led to reduced ballot access requirements similar to those Holt introduced in the State Senate.

The ARLP recommends Arkansans cast their ballot for Holt and Sanders in the May 18 primary.

“I urge you to research all of the options, ask questions and utilize online tools like the Arkansas Voter Guide,” said Langguth. “But we think that in the end you will see why we believe Jim Holt and David Sanders deserve your vote.”

The Arkansas Libertarian Party is a state affiliate of the National Libertarian Party. The ARLP has been active since the mid-1970’s and has consistently placed a Libertarian Presidential candidate on the ballot since 1980.

In 2002 the ARLP successfully achieved placing “Axe the Food Tax” on the ballot. The amendment was defeated in the general election but was later adopted by other parties and a proposal to reduce the tax on groceries became law in 2007.
