We held our Arkansas Libertarian Party 2010 State Convention at the Embassy Suites in West Little Rock this weekend. It was a wonderful event, and everyone seemed to have a very good time!
Thank you to all of you who attended, donated, participated, promoted, worked, and spoke at the convention. This would have never happened without the effort of many people.
A special thank you was given to Jessica Paxton, who put her heart and soul into making the convention the event that it was. She received the Arkansas Libertarian of the Year award at the convention for her tireless work and dedication. Thank you, Jessica!
We had several excellent speakers at the convention who all contributed a great deal. I would like to thank each and every one of them as well.
David Sanders is running for Arkansas Representative in District 31, which includes part of Saline and Pulaski counties. He gave a very welcome speech which helped many of us in attendance understand his positions. He seems to be a Republican with strong libertarian leanings. I would highly suggest finding out more about him at http://www.davidsanders2010.com.
Candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, Jim Holt, gave an excellent speech as well. He is running for the seat currently held by Blanche Lincoln. Not only did Jim answer many tough questions from the audience, he stayed well after the convention wrapped up and answered a lot of questions from the attendees. He was very receptive to listening to us, as well as explaining his positions. You can find out more about Jim at http://jimholt2010.com.
Jim Prindle is member of the Texas Libertarian Party and is running for the U.S. House of Representative seat in the 4th district of Texas. He flew all the way from Dallas to share his ideas on politics and libertarianism. His speech was extremely well received, and we all had a wonderful time meeting and talking with him. As a Libertarian candidate for office, he needs support of Libertarians all over the country. If you can help him in any way, I know it would be much appreciated. To run a successful campaign is expensive, and he has put his career on hold to run a strong full-time campaign. If you can help him with a donation, send Jim a check! Every little bit helps. You can find more about him at his website at http://www.prindleforcongress.com and on his Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jim-Prindle/377726501385.
Wayne Allyn Root, 2008 Libertarian Vice-Presidential candidate, came from Las Vegas to be with us for the weekend. He was our keynote speaker and gave a dynamic speech that fired the audience up! He is currently running for the National Chair position with the Libertarian National Party. Being from Nevada, I think the terrible thunderstorms we had Friday night made him a little nervous! He was an excellent guest, and we hope to have him back in Arkansas again soon. We wish him the best of luck in his future with the Libertarian Party. You can find more about him at http://rootforamerica.com.
Americans for Prosperity also came and gave a presentation of the current state of the Arkansas Budget. Elizabeth Aymond did an excellent job of showing us the sad state of the budget in our state. You can find out more about Americans for Prosperity at http://www.americansforprosperity.org/arkansas.
We will have pictures and video of the convention up soon and will update you all when those are available.
