Casey Copeland, Treasurer for the Libertarian Party of Arkansas, attorney and Alderman in Prairie Grove, AR, brought a case to the Arkansas Supreme Court that led to the overturn of the law banning sexual contact between teachers and adult students. The Arkansas Supreme Court found that people over the age of 18 have a constitutional right to engage in a consensual sexual relationship.
The case was about Elkins High School history and psychology teacher David Paschal, who admitted to having a consensual sexual relationship with and 18 year old student.
“Regardless of how we feel about Paschal’s conduct, which could correctly be referred to as reprehensible, we cannot abandon our duty to uphold the rule of law when a case presents distasteful facts,” wrote Chief Justice Jim Hannah.
Paschal, who is serving a 30-year sentence, will have his convictions reversed and dismissed. His attorney, Casey Copeland, said his client was “vindicated by the Supreme Court.”
“I think that this case does not necessarily say a teacher can do that and keep their job,” said Copeland. “I think the loss of job and loss of teacher’s license might be Continue reading Libertarians Making a Difference in Arkansas – Casey Copeland, Attorney

Ballot Petition Signature Turn-In Press Conference, May 18th, 2011
The Libertarian Party of Arkansas will be the party for those Arkansans who believe in “Minimum Government, Maximum Freedom.” Arkansans will see that slogan when they visit our web-page, and they will hear it whenever they speak with us about the issues of today, yesterday, or tomorrow.
Many Arkansans may ask, “What is libertarianism?” or “What is a Libertarian?” Only to find, after a little study and self-examination, that they are a libertarians; or at least they live their lives like libertarians. And, they will find that America was founded as a libertarian country.
In his book Libertarianism in One Lesson, Mr. David Bergland says, “Libertarianism is grounded in the ‘natural rights’ tradition in western culture.” That tradition was known and espoused by our Founding Father, and expressed to the world and handed down to us through the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United Continue reading Press Conference Prepared Remarks by Casey D. Ballot Petition Signature Turn-In Press Conference, May 18th, 2011
Today is a historic day. Not only for the Libertarian Party of Arkansas and not only for the State of Arkansas, but also for the nation as a whole.
Today marks a new stage for the Libertarian Party of Arkansas. For the first time in history, we are nearing the end of the road to achieving ballot access, the holy grail of politics. Since the early 80’s, this has been a dream for Libertarians in Arkansas, and today it is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Arkansans have never been able to vote for a Libertarian candidate for any office other than President of the United States. Today, we are closer than ever to giving these disenfranchised voters that option. No longer will liberty-loving Arkansans be forced to choose between big government and bigger government, but they will soon have the option to vote for minimum government and maximum freedom.
Recent history has not seen a third party have non-Presidential candidates on the ballot in every state. Not since the 1920’s has a third party been able to say they Continue reading Press Conference Prepared Remarks by Rodger Paxton
